You know that awkward moment when you realize that your face is three shades darker than your neck? I had one a few days ago. Sun damage anyone? 😣
This is the one thing we –myself included– never seem to take seriously. But once you read articles like this and this, you see that your entire beauty regime is being rubbished by not using it. My current shade – beautiful bronze, if you’re wondering 😊, may not actually be the natural colour of my skin. I know this because my cheeks are about one shade lighter than the rest of my face, which leaves me wondering what colour my skin should really be.
I’ve never consistently worn sunscreen because I didn’t quite understand the reason it’s so important, but now that I know what it does I can’t believe I’ve gone this long without it! What I’ve found out is this:
SPF is a measure of how well a sunscreen protects against UVB rays.
•15– 1/15 of the UVB rays get through to your skin – blocking about 93%.
•30– 1/30 of the UVB rays get through to your skin – blocking about 97%.
•50– 1/50 of the UVB rays get through to your skin – blocking about 98%
UVA rays penetrate deep into the skin, causing wrinkles and age spots.
UVB rays get to the outer layer of skin and cause the burning of your skin.
You have to wear it even when it’s cloudy/gloomy/raining because the sun rays still get through the clouds, and even when indoors because rays bounce off the ground and and try to destroy our faces lol. Seriously though. And mixing it with moisturiser lessens the effectiveness of the cream, so I’d advice getting a plain suncream and putting it on after you moisturise your face.
I picked up a tube of Bio Balance Sunscreen because the few reviews of it online were pretty positive. It’s SPF 50, has none of the harmful chemicals that Neutorgena and a few other popular ones have (again, read THIS for more info) and it doesn’t leave a white cast on the face when applied. I’ll do a full review of the Bio Balance Sunscreen after I’ve had a chance to properly use it and check for results, but watch my new youtube video for a first impressions review/testing of the product.
I’m hoping that by protecting my face from the sun, I’ll give my skin some time to repair itself and even out. Fingers crossed lol. For now, makeup will have to do 😊
